I’ve chosen some pretty tough perennials, which is a good rule of thumb no matter where you live considering the harsh conditions that sometimes prevail in these types of planting areas.  Purple salvia is one of my favorites, and so is lavender.  The salvia always blesses you with 2nd and 3rd blooms.  The first of the season is the most spectacular, of course.  Lavender comes along a little later with its beautiful color and fragrance.
