Here are some things to consider when designing your garden shed:

  • The type of roof:  Metal roofing costs about twice as much as asphalt shingles. But on a midsize shed, you’ll only spend an extra $100 to $200. And that’s a bargain when you consider the benefits. Metal roofing costs about twice as much as asphalt shingles. But on a midsize shed, you’ll only spend an extra $100 to $200. • Create quick and easy tool access.  Consider creating a locker attached to the outside of the shed.  Line it with pegboard and…VOILA!…..fast access to garden rakes, pruners, and shovels.
  • Consider a simple floor and foundation.  There are alternatives to a concrete slab.
  • Electrical?
  • Consider building LARGE sliding doors. Sliding doors are easier to build than swinging doors because they don’t have to be as stiff and sturdy. Build them large enough to easily retrieve and stow lawnmowers or even to winterize patio furniture. Read more at Family Handyman.
  • And, of course, the paint color—the real fun part!
